      Hi Richard, GDT has a very high resistance (> G Ohm) and very low leakage current, so its degradation is much slower than MOV (higher leakage current).

    0:48 "SPD protection level needs to be 20% less of the system's withstand rating" If my SCC/Inverter's PV max input voltage is 500V, and my PV's string Voc is at 370v, does this mean I need an SPD that is 400V? unfortunately, I could not find any 400Vdc SPDs; only 1000Vdc SPDs. What about using AC SPDs? They have lower values.. Any ideas?

      Hi, from the video, SPD to be less than 20% system's dielectric withstand rating, not string voltage or inverter voltage. You can check the name tag for system maximum voltage, usually 1000 or 1500 V. I think you should go for System nominal voltage < SPD < System maximum voltage

      Great question, Tariq! To thoroughly answer, we would need to review how close the equipment you are trying to protect is, physically, to the surge protection included in the inverter. If the equipment is more than 10m from the inverter, we would recommend you install additional surge protection.

      @@waqastariq5941 Hi Tariq, when evaluating surge protective devices, it is best to review the SPD's Voltage Protection Ration or Voltage Protection level. This parameter will tell you how much voltage is let through to the equipment you are trying to protect and would ideally be as small as possible. When you refer to “Type 2,” this definition can vary depending on if you are talking about a UL SPD or an IEC SPD. By IEC standards, type/class 2 indicates it is qualified to protect from indirect lighting strikes and type/class 3 provides less protection. By UL standards, Type 2 indicates the product is rated to be installed on the load side of the main disconnect, whereas Type 3 is only rated to be installed at point of use.

      Hi there, this should answer your question: Littelfuse Arc Flash Relays utilize light sensors installed throughout the cabinets to detect an arc flash, which can easily be retrofit into most cabinets. Input from current sensors can also be added if desired to verify the presence of an arc, if there is concern of other light sources creating a false arc detection. The Arc Flash Relay can react to an arc extremely fast, providing a trip signal in under 1 ms, which is connected an existing circuit breaker within the equipment. The total clearing time will then be the 1 ms Arc Flash Relay reaction time plus the breaker operating time. For the majority of arc events, this is a significantly faster clearing time, and thus a lower incident energy level, than would normally be achieved using only standard current-based protection.

    We have five Arctic Chillers air-cooled. We have lost 19 out of 28 Condenser fans one by one . May be problem is transient Voltage but we never pin pointed it. We are considering to install Surge protectors. It will be better if surge protectors have VARISTOR and also Selenium Plates to protect better? Any body has any idea? Any help will be appreciated.

      Anand, here's what our team advises: Selenium cells come in many shapes and sizes, so sometimes they can be difficult to compare apples to apples. When comparing technologies, I would be sure to look at these parameters: MCOV (Maximum Continuous Overvoltage), sometimes referred to as clamping voltage, Nominal Interrupting Rating, and Voltage Protection Rating. MCOV is the threshold for if you go over that voltage, the device begins to provide protection. Nominal Interrupting rating is the size of surge the protection device can handle on a average basis. And Voltage Protection Rating is the amount of voltage the device, in your case Chiller, will experience in the event of a surge. What it sounds like you are describing is type of Hybrid protection. The point of combining different technologies is to minimize the shortcomings of each technology. For instance, it appears Selenium Plates may have a much higher MCOV but are very robust. MOVs have a lower MCOV but can be limited in Nominal and Maximum interrupting rating. By combining them, you can attempt to get the best of both worlds. Littelfuse offers thermally protect MOVs in our surge protection devices. They have a small footprint and are easy to integrate into most applications.

      Those tested TMOVs continuous AC voltage rating is 275Vac. The test condition is 400Vac with 5A continues limited current based on UL 1449 44.4 Limited Current Abnormal Overvoltage Test.

    The fire alarm control panel can't activate or prevent sprinklers from activating. Whoever compiled the facts for the video has watched one too many movie where someone activates a pull station and all the sprinklers magically turn on. Sprinklers are simply activated when the liquid in the bulb expands due to heat and burst, causing the head to open.
